...Blogs, twitter, social networks, etc. they're all fine and dandy, but sometimes, I find myself reading someone else's thoughts or about what they did that day and I think, "Wow! That's amazing!" or "Wow! That sucks!" or, "Wow! I should try that!" or some variation of that statement (possibly without the "wow").

Essentially, sometimes I feel like I'm reading so much about others' lives, I'm not living my own. I mean, I am, but, reading all of these posts and stories can be an overwhelming flow of information whether truly informative, inspiring or purely interesting.

It's great to be inspired and informed, but should there be a limit as to how much we consume? Of course, this would have to be a self-inflicted restraint, but I wonder, does anyone else ever feel this way, reading blogs, etc?

Or is it something like wedding blog envy? --Yep, I think I just made up a knew psychological term. I should patent this and write a book or something. Ha!-- But seriously, wedding blog envy--like when you're planning your wedding, you know what you want and then you start surfing the net (yeah, I said "surfing the net") and you see this blog and that site and then you, instead, have to have this and that! I mean, HAVE to! Is it like that?

Do we compare our days to what others get done in a day? When someone posts on twitter, "Just got back from an amazing bike ride with @someonewhoealsowentonanamazingbikerideunlikeyourself!" Do you wonder what you were doing while they were on their bike ride and are now finished and found time to tweet this for the world to relish?

Yes, I believe that one should never compare thyself to another for each has his or her own journey in life that is wholly unique unto them, and, this may have been a weird thought for the day, but it ran through my mind, so I wondered what others felt about this. Are reading blogs, microblogs, etc. a waste of valuable time that we, too, could be doing the things about which we're reading?

I know, I know, it's a guilty pleasure and I'm hanging my head in shame...while I squint and tilt my head to the side a bit to see if anyone else owns up to watching this show too.

o_O <-- Yes, I'm giving everyone who's not owning up to their guilty pleasure the side eye right now.

This show is a horrible depiction of women and all that real jazz, but if you watch it, it's kind of like a bad accident, you just can't help yourself. The point of the girls being in the house is to work on themselves and their attitude issues, etc. And there are definitely some who do this and grow from the situation and some who are obviously in it for the 15 minutes of fame that's attached to reality shows. Either way, it's pretty entertaining.

And by so many, I mean at least four.

So, one day, long, long ago, I was watching tv and what did I see? A commercial for a contraption called the Slanket. And I thought this was the best idea ever, you know since I'm always wrapped in a blanket on the couch, yes with the heat on. Who doesn't like to cozy up watching your favorite show? So anyway, that was that. I knew I just had to have one.

Jumping to further in the future, I ran across an ad for a cheaper version of the Slanket called, the Snuggie. Then I thought, forget the Slanket, I HAVE to have the Snuggie!!

Fast forward to almost present day future, when I decided okay, now it's time to finally get a Snuggie. Mind you, it's probably been close to a year since I first saw the Slanket. Crazy, I know. I'm not sure what happened, I really just never got around to it. Well, there was this one time I was in the store and felt the Snuggie and decided it didn't feel soft enough to merit my $20 at the time, but now, now I'm ready! It's Snuggie time!

But before I make such an important purchase, hehe.. I had to do some research. I was determined to find a softer version of the Snuggie. An off-brand, no-name, generic version of the snuggie, if you will. From my research, what I found was this. Which then cracked me up one, because someone went through all of this trouble to compare these blankets (even though to find this, I obviously did actual research on a Snuggie, so thank you, research people.) and, two, I couldn't believe I had never heard of the Freedom Blanket or the Blankcoat!!

Anyway, if you've made it through this long, drawn out post, thank you. :) And I know you're all dying to know what I decided to purchase after much thought and research?

Ehh, I think I'm going to just stick to my good old regular blanket...for now. :-)

I had a reminiscent moment the other day when I was thinking about the Richard Pryor movie, Moving. I used to watch that movie on repeat back in the day.

For some reason, I decided to try and find a clip of the scene of the young twins from the movie when they were running their school race as one person. One of them would start the race, then half way through, the other twin would spray water on himself and finish the race and come in first place.

Not sure why this scene crossed my mind--maybe because I was thinking about "going to the gym" and really just doing something else completely different and spraying myself with water on the way back in the house so I looked like I worked up a sweat, whew!!

However, on my mission, I instead found this hilarious clip:

Tasha Prescott of BeU Photography has started a project called 5252. What is this exactly and how does it involve you? I'll let her explain:

"What is 5252? It's the beginning of a New Year and we enter into 2010 with a fresh start!

A fresh start to do something different is an excellent idea. So while a lot of photographers are having 365 day projects or 52week projects, I decided to use my 52wks to give back to grow professionally, but also give others an opportunity to experience what custom photography is.

The 5252 project for BEU is simple. Every Monday, we will select individuals to take advantage of a free session with Ms. T Prescott. This is going to work through online application. If not chosen for that week, do not fret, your application stays on file and may be chosen for another week.

Each week will focus on a different type of shoot. The Session will be posted by Sunday, and Monday will start all over again. The session fee is waived, hence 52wks, 52faces, 52sessions for free! (minimum $150 value)"

Oh, Amanda Bynes. How I adore your humor and acting skills via What I Like About You, All That (old-school Nickelodeon), What a Girl Wants, etc. However, this whole Maxim magazine covergirl is just not okay.

Why is this you might ask? No, it's not the pose or choice of lingerie, it's the interview! Yep, the interview.

When Maxim thanked you for posing in the Valentine's issue of the magazine, your response was:

"I'm honored! I had the best time on this shoot. I think every shot I did was sexy. Some people still see me as a kid, but I'm a 23-year-old woman now."

Yes, Amanda, do you understand why I'm disappointed? Okay, in all fairness, I'm not really disappointed in you, but instead, this idea in our society that for a young actress/singer to be seen as an adult, she must pose in lingerie for a magazine and somehow this acts as their coming out party. A debutante of sorts? Seriously?! What is that about?

And if it's not a professional magazine shoot, then it's an amateur, classic nude photo scandel a la:

I was reading the entire above article over on Inspired By This and thought, how very true is all of this. And simple. And how sad/upsetting/frustrating it is that some vendors just can't seem to grasp this simple concept.

But then I thought, this article is perfect for not just wedding vendors, but any of us who are working, looking for work, starting a business, etc. and want to move ahead and grow. It's easy to get frustrated when your situation hasn't progessed, but it's quite possible the reason for that lack of progression is staring you in the mirror.

You have to ask yourself, "Am I really doing my best and all I can do to move ahead?" And if the answer to that question is something to the affect of, "Yes, kinda sorta...right after I check my Facebook," or "I try but this person does this and that person does that and my boss hates me (the blame game)," then realize it's time to re-evaluate.

Essentially, do your job consistently well, take advantage of presented opportunities while continuing to make your own opportunies and you will progress.

Why? Because they're kind of hilarious! Does anyone else watch this?

I'll be honest, I completely avoided this show during its first season because I always thought there was something about Guilianna when she's on E! News that I didn't like. She just came off mean or cold in a way that made me want to avoid ever watching her on tv.

Boy was I wrong (or she's putting on a good show), because she's pretty hilarious. Okay, more like silly, but it makes for a good mindless time(which, admit it, you need that every once in awhile, right?). Well anyway, she and Bill together are pretty funny and seem like a fun couple as they constantly crack jokes on one another and refer to each other by their last names like they're best friends (as well they should be!!). She seems to love calling him "Rancic."

This season, the big storyline is they're working on having a baby. So, if you want to check them and their adventures and cast of characters out (her assistant, their families, etc.) check your local listings to find them on Style and E!.

So on a random note, one of my many addictions that I've mentioned on this blog before is reality tv. And, I'm only a little ashamed of this, lol. Am I the only one?

Given that, one of the shows I watch, who's finale is tonight, is MTV's The City featuring Whitney Port. Well, if you too, frequent this show, then you know there's one "character" who is Whitney's boss, Kelly Cutrone. She's the sharp, no-nonesence co-owner of pr firm, The People's Revolution. Well, apparently, she'll have her own show soon. I should have guessed this by how much they featured her this season. ..side eye..

"The show, which premieres Monday, Feb. 1 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, will center on the behind-the-scenes workings and madness of Cutrone's successful fashion PR company, People's Revolution."

Hello all,

Lately, I've run across a few postings out there in the ether about the emphasis couples place on their wedding photography in hopes to have one those picture-perfect, magazine style, editorial wedding photos by which to remember their special day. And I have to ask, "What's wrong with that?"

I believe the friendly argument is that couples may be spending too much time (and money) trying to get the perfect pictures and wedding details, while forgetting, the wedding day is just one day and it's really about the marriage and the rest of your lives together with this person you absolutely love and adore. And, I get that, I do, but what's wrong with wanting and ediorial style shoot? If that's what you want (and can afford--please don't go broke for ANY wedding details), then go for it!

Love and romance and charm and elegance and fun and classic beauty can be found in all types of photographic styless from editorial to journalistic to the Polaroid taken by your grandmother. It's all beautiful, but each style of photography represents the couple's personal style and that, in itself, is beautiful.

So, no matter what the blogs are saying or posting (CR included) or what the wedding magazines are displaying, whatever you decide to do as a couple, as a family, is your choice and your choice alone. And whatever you decide will be beautiful.

*Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you're going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you're crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk.

*I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

*Do you remember when you were a kid, playing Nintendo and it wouldn't work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically fix the problem. Every kid in America did that, but how did we all know how to fix the problem? There was no internet or message boards or FAQ's. We just figured it out. Today's kids are soft.

*Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what was going on when I first saw it.

*I think everyone has a movie that they love so much; it actually becomes stressful to watch it with other people. I'll end up wasting 90 minutes shiftily glancing around to confirm that everyone's laughing at the right parts, then making sure I laugh just a little bit harder (and a millisecond earlier) to prove that I'm still the only one who really, really gets it.

*I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.

*Was learning cursive really necessary?

*Answering the same letter three times or more in a row on a Scantron test is absolutely petrifying.

*How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what they said?

*MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

*If Carmen San Diego and Waldo ever got together, their offspring would probably just be completely invisible.

*Why is it that during an ice-breaker, when the whole room has to go around and say their name and where they are from, I get so incredibly nervous? Like I know my name, I know where I'm from; this shouldn't be a problem....

*You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you've made up your mind that you just aren't doing anything productive for the rest of the day.

*There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to fall after leaning your chair back a little too far.

*I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.

*"Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this ever.

*I hate being the one with the remote in a room full of people watching TV. There's so much pressure. 'I love this show, but will they judge me if I keep it on? I bet everyone is wishing we weren't watching this. It's only a matter of time before they all get up and leave the room. Will we still be friends after this?'

*I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.

*When I meet a new girl/boy, I'm terrified of mentioning something she hasn't already told me but that I have learned from some light internet stalking.

*I like all of the music in my iTunes, except when it's on shuffle, then I like about one in every fifteen songs in my iTunes.

*As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate cyclists.

*Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

*I wonder if cops ever get pi$$ed off at the fact that everyone they drive behind obeys the speed limit.

Thing 2) Sometimes I want to burst out laughing in a crowded elevator when everyone's so stiff and trying not to talk...or blink...or breathe...speaking of...

Thing 3) I don't like people breathing on me...especially in an elevator.

Thing 4) I absolutely love wedding/lifestyle photography --maybe you already know that one. ;-)

Thing 5) I think Essence magazine has been showcasing some really beautiful magazine covers lately. --Yes, a completely random thought.

Thing 6) I learned what an "amuse-bouche" was by watching Top Chef. Please, don't judge me.

Thing 7) Whatever the topic of conversation, I can usually think of a song to go with it and will start singing it. However, surprisingly, I'm not really THAT into music. Weird.

For a while now, there's been a lot of research done on parabens (a preservative) and other seemingly cancer causing agents in our beauty products. Since then, there has been a big push for all things healthy and natural. This is important for all areas of our life as who knows what is going into our food and products today.

Um, regarding the food, has anyone read Skinny Bitch?! If not, it's definitely a great eye-opener about the foods we eat and what the FDA approves.

But i digress, focusing on what we eat effects our inward beauty and health, but let's not forget about the products we use for outward beauty (hair, make-up, skin care, etc.). I recently ran across a site called Best in Beauty...

...which has a ton of information on our beauty products, what's in them and what we should be looking to avoid when we go to purchase them. What we put on our body, may make us pretty on the outside, but may eventually make our health ugly on the inside.

Anywho, as we go about planning our weddings, gearing up for the sexiest of photoshoots or just plain ol' living our lives, it might not hurt to take a gander at this list first and do a little research.

You may or may not be aware of my polaroid addiction as evidenced here and here. And you may or may not have been aware that Polaroid production was shutting down (even though, you could still find necessary film out there if you really needed it).

However, due to popular demand, it looks like our (or maybe just my :-) beloved instant, classic camera film could be back for good. Which is just absolutely fabulous! There's just something so perfect about a Polaroid picture.

As you can tell on this blog, photography is one of my favorite things. When I ran across this photographer's blog, I just knew I had to feature her in a V-Spot. Her sense of style and self was too unique and real to pass up. Her name, Brooke Fitts (she's the one on the left :-). Learn a little more about this amazing photographer and her work below.

+Please briefly detail your business and what you do.

Freelance photographer specializing in weddings, people, and love in general. Editorial photographer for Seattle Magazine. Sometimes fine art photographer and restaurant server.

+What and when was your "aha!" moment (if one) that you discovered photography was something you wanted to turn into a profession/career? If applicable, what was your previous profession?

I'm never sure how to answer this sort of question, as I've felt a pull towards photography since my teens. I was always trying to get into the photography classes in highschool, but it was always full so I never did. I've always been incredibly determined to figure out a way to do something I truly love and get paid for it, so I just never stopped pushing myself harder to get better and create more compelling imagery. I've waited tables for years, (and still do a few nights a week) and have always been so grateful for the opportunity it lends to being able to make rent and still provide free days for productivity in other fields.

+How did you get your start in this industry?

Photo taking and picture making has always felt very natural to me. My mind just sees images in everything everyday. But wedding photography per se was never something I had intended on doing. I was living in Hawaii and simply wanted to assist other photographers for experience. There were plenty of wedding photographers around who were happy to have me tag along and ask questions while carrying heavy bags and lights, so I just began feeling really comfortable being a presence on someone's wedding day. Assisting turned into second shooting, and when I felt like I had enough of a portfolio, I started shooting for friends and friends of friends. I feel blessed and lucky to say that 99% of my jobs are word of mouth.

+What is the passion that drives you to do what you do? In other words, what is it that you wish to express to your clients and the world through your work?

I love striving to find and capture that moment within someone when they relax in front of my camera and their true self and beauty comes thru. Making my clients feel comfortable and beautiful is half the job of taking a good photo, and I'm driven to never stop looking for that instant. I see beauty all the time, everywhere. I want my images to communicate an uncommon beauty in common things, a story, and expression.

+Have you had a moment where you wanted to quit? If so, what made you want to continue? If not, what would you say to encourage someone who has?

You have no idea how many moments I've wanted to quit. Nobody said being an artist was easy, and there's been more than a few times that I've thought how nice it would be just to have a steady income, 401K, and health insurance. Or how many times I've felt so inadequate and inundated by all the amazing photography and photographers out there. But my love of photography keeps me coming back every time. Whenever I've thought about quitting, I just can't imagine what else I would do that would bring me as much happiness and contentedness, so I just keep plugging along. Pluck and determination are two of the major components in pursuing any passion or dream. And I firmly believe that with enough of those two and timing in the mix, there's just not a whole lot of room for failure.

+What has been your most memorable (good, bad, funny, etc.) experience so far?

I once had a bride that cried and cried most of her wedding day because it rained. Pouring torrential summer rain. She had even researched 5 years of weather to find the least likely day for rain, and had her wedding on a weekday because of the prognosis. The ironic thing is that her photos turned out beautifully. The light was all pretty and diffused, and we did some fun stuff with umbrella and reflections in puddles. I'm a big believer in just dealing the best you know how with whatever life tosses your way. See the beauty in everything and the possibility in things going unexpectedly. Kind of like that quote... "when life hands you lemons, make lemonade."

+What is one thing you know now that you wish someone had told you before you started in this profession?

I wish someone had told me how to manage my time and to take Sundays off. I wasted a lot of good working hours surfing the internet and looking at other people's work... and then feeling badly of my mismanagement of time, I would feel guilty taking a day off and not working on "work". So I got really overwhelmed and felt stretched too thin by being in a work mode 24/7, but never feeling like I was getting that much accomplished. Steven Pressfield's "The War of Art" has been hugely helpful in my case of time management. Sometimes we just have to turn off the internet, and facebook and twitter and get down to business... And take one day a week away from the computer, email, and maybe even your phone!

+What did you eat for dinner last night? :-)

mmm... you caught me on a good night! I had fresh rigatoni pasta with italian sausage, tomato sauce and marjoram, glass of wine, and a baked apple bread pudding with caramel sauce and cinnamon ice cream for dessert.

things i am learning... give compliments, say thank you, life is what you make of it, if inspiration does not come, go and find it, anxiety is overrated , comparison is a killer, envy is a waste of time look into the mirror and pour kindness into what you see, be attracted towards, intrigued by and enamoured with... make soup from scratch, none of us make it out of here alive, you are only as happy as you choose to be, live intentionally, live inquisitively , break out of routine, contradiction happens, walk, don't drive, remember that you don't know what someone else is going thru, when they cut you off in traffic, cut in front of you in line, or give a bad first impression. actively engage in relationship... be that person that someone can call for a ride, a favor, a need. stop blaming everyone else, take responsibility, open your heart, for more points of view than just yours. be generous, just cuz. apologize, its ok to say "i need", tell someone how you're really doing, being angry just isn't worth it, say "i love you"

Dawn Easter Events is a boutique wedding design firm offering a unique planning experience. We keep up with the latest trends not only in the world of weddings, but also fashion, home furnishings, cuisine, technology and travel. We effortlessly weave these elements together, creating a bespoke experience for our clients.

+What and when was your "aha!" moment (if one) that you discovered planning was something you wanted to turn into a profession/career?

My “aha” moment was really a series of little events. How I discovered the event planning was my passion was I get lost in my work. I don’t mean that I get overwhelmed (though that does happen every now and then) what I mean is that I lose track of time. I get caught up in whatever it is that I’m doing; looking thru fabric swatches, putting together a color story or deciding which accessories best complete a tablescape. Event design and planning is my passion!

+How did you get your start in this industry?

My first professional taste of event planning was on the corporate side when I worked for an insurance brokerage. I was actually an assistant in the marketing department and there were always a constant stream of client dinners, parties recognizing team sales goals, employee appreciation days, etc. That position really helped to cut my teeth in the industry.

+What is the passion that drives you to do what you do? In other words, what is it that you wish to express to your clients and the world through your work?

Simply put, life is worth celebrating! Whether it’s done on a grand scale or a more intimate one, life’s special moments should be acknowledged and made a fuss over. It’s about infusing your party with a sense of who you are, your history, your style, your tastes.

+Have you had a moment where you wanted to quit? If so, what made you want to continue? If not, what would you say to encourage someone who has?

I’ve never wanted to quit but I understand there is an ebb and flow to everything. Like my father always says, “Eyes on the Prize”.

+What has been your most memorable (good, bad, funny, etc.) experience so far?

My most memorable experience, that no one prepares you for, was a wedding cancelled at the rehearsal. Talk about a firestorm!

+What is one thing you know now that you wish someone had told you before you started in this profession?

I wish someone had recommended I take a few business courses prior to hanging my shingle. There is more to this job than picking out pretty flowers, you are running a business first and foremost.

A year ago today you thought you'd be living in Atlanta full time instead of splitting my time between VA and Atlanta. A year from now you hope you'll be firmly in Atlanta while plotting on my new NYC office.

Any Project Runway fans out there?! If so, let me say that I'm one week behind, but the week before (*SPOILER ALERT* if you're also behind) one of my favorite models from the show was booted off. Emarie Wiltz!

Is it just me, does anyone else feel they should make the designers switch models every now and again. I'm all for loyalty, but this loyalty stuff doesn't make for great tv, lol. Especially on their new sister show, Models of the Runway. Not that we need more craziness on tv, but switching models would really make for a fun competition. For those of you who don't watch the show, let me explain how this works:

Each week the designers get to choose their models. The winning designer chooses first and then everyone else is in random order. The last designer has to choose between the last two models and the model left standing next to Heidi gets her classic German send-off, "auf Wiedersehen."

Why this means anything to the models is that this is a competition for them as well as they have their own prizes and exposure to fight for. However, after the first couple of episodes, the designers usually stick with the same model out of loyalty. Blah, blah, blah...I'm all for loyalty, but as the reality tv-junkie that I am, I need a little suspense and drama. They need to shake things up a bit. Again, especially for the sake of Models of the Runway.

But I digress...back to why I originally started this post. Since the show, taped last year, Emarie has been off to do good for the world. She started a clothing line to bring attention the issues around the world called, Global Recess.

The mission, "To spread global responsibility through fashion." Check it out and grab a few items if you can or just spread the word. I love when people take their popularity and use it for good. A portion of each sales' proceeds go to an organization that fight human trafficking, the military use of children, and poverty among other things. Check out a few of the designs below:

Concrete flooring may not be the number one preference in your home, but this concept below from Transparent House is amazing! If I had concrete anywhere I would definitely want to consider something like this. If not for a home, maybe an office. If it's out of the budget, maybe this similar look could be accomplished with a sturdy paint. Something that wouldn't chip or wear off for awhile. Either way, love this.

This is no where related to weddings, lifestyles, etc., but I just had to ask. I've never heard of this song, but it was recently brought to my attention. Apparently, it was pretty popular back in the day, I completely missed it and now I'm completely fascinated. And because I had to research this further... :-)
